Explore Better
I embarked on adulthood with no clue who I was or what I was doing. (Maybe you can relate?) I was low on most metrics of a great life - depressed, isolated, lost, and unfulfilled.
Things felt so bad that the only choice I saw was to push out and explore how life could be better.
From that first choice of raising my hand in class at college (I was an extremely quiet kid) to speaking in front of hundreds and even performing a ten-minute stand-up set,
from wishing I had more friends to building a community and friendships that carried me through an unexpected divorce (thank you everyone!),
from building a business I outgrew to finally finding a path forward that felt right after a bunch of trial and error,
from ignoring my emotional health to regularly feeling grounded and regulated,
I have methodically pushed the boundaries of what I thought was possible in career, relationships, health, business, and daily life. And I’m here to tell you that life really, truly can get better.
So much is possible when you get out and explore. And life, while not always easy, can be a joy to live, particularly when we do it together.
I believe:
You can have more of what you want than you realize.
Clarity is foundational to getting what you want.
Getting to clarity is a process of reflection and exploration that results in finding the most amazing things in life.
Getting to clarity can be accelerated with expert support and community.
That’s where I come in! The exploratory process of getting to clarity is my specialty, and I love collaboratively discovering all that is possible for you and your life.
My coaching style is present, compassionate, attentive, insightful, and playful. I like to get to know and work with the rhythms of your system to help you function at your best.
When you’re in your sweet spot of life and have an overflowing cup you not only feel better, but you also make your greatest contribution to the world.
My Journey
2002-2006: “Alison, The Reluctant Accountant”
After going through a STEM focused primary education, my parents picked my college major of Accounting because my mom had made a career change into Accounting that had worked well for her. Unfortunately I don’t like arbitrary rules or details, leading one summer pool acquaintance to dub me “Alison, the Reluctant Accountant.”
2006-2009: Stops and Starts
I was clear that Accounting wasn’t the right fit for me, but I had no idea what was! I took a job, quit a job, worked in retail, took another job, and overall felt miserable and depressed. The switch came for me when I started exploring other alternatives, like writing, helping professions, and mentoring kids. Volunteering at a suicide hotline cemented my interest in a helping profession, which led me to coaching.
2009-2013: Are We There Yet?
I started my career coaching business in 2009 with a lot of hope and naivete. Within a few months I realized I did not know what I was doing, and I took a job as a nanny as supplemental income. I remember the days feeling so long and my impatience being everywhere. I knew what I wanted, but I didn’t know how to do it. I thought I would be stuck forever and I often imagined a dreary future.
2013-2017: Slow Progress
Through a process of trial and error I found what worked best for clients to get the career clarity they were wanting. I learned how to run a business sequentially and methodically. I wrote a book on getting unstuck and built a team to deliver coaching services. Eventually I hit on a marketing breakthrough that activated all of my earlier work and jumped my success. My life kept getting better, nothing like the fears my imagination had created.
2017-2022: Wandering in the Wilderness
Just as soon as I figured out how to market my business I hit my own trouble spot. I felt like something was wrong, and I wanted to burn everything down and try again. Thankfully I’d built a machine that carried me through several years of personal growth, client exploration, and a new understanding of how I wanted to show up in life and at work. Even when it looked like nothing was happening I was discovering piece after piece of my own puzzle.
2022- Present: Putting it All Together
What does a love of exploration, a knack for clarity, stand-up comedy, a passion for supporting all kinds of wonderful people from employees to creatives to entrepreneurs lead to? A shift from just career coaching to anchoring around my expertise for finding clarity. My puzzle has finally come together in a way I love and I am so delighted to get to share with you! Three cheers for exploring what’s possible! And for all the earned wisdom I have to share from both lived experience and a decade plus of coaching.
